8 oz taro root, peeled and cleaned
3 cups water
1 Tbsp corn starch + 2 Tbsp water
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla sugar
1/4 tsp salt
purple food coloring
Dough:
1/4 cup hot water, 100-110 degrees F
2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast + 1 tsp sugar
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt
2 Tbsp unsalted butter, room temperature
1/2 cup whole milk, room temperature
1 large egg
1 tsp vegetable oil
Egg Wash:
1 egg yolk
1/2 Tbsp water
Yields: 12 buns

Can I add heavy cream, milk, or coconut milk to give the paste a creamier taste ?

I just tried this recipe and it turned out pretty great. I do think it was a bit hard to do but I managed to do it. The only thing I didn't really like was that the bread tasted too much like yeast, but I did resolve this problem with adding a little bit more flour. Thank you for the recipe, will definitely try again!

Hi!! There's this recipe I think called banh it. Savory rice dumplings. This other cool used a special flour? I couldn't find what she used at the Asian market. It's there another way t make the dumplings?

Hi Trang. I live in the Uk and we do not have all purpose flour. We have something called Plain Flour. I am not sure if it is the same. Can you tell me what the protein grams is listed in your pack please ? I am quite scared because everytime I use it for steam bun, it fails and is very yellow and not fluffy at all.
