  • ❗ EDIT: The Instamic actually does have a "hold" feature that you can enable in the app by pressing the "lock" icon next to the record button. This will prevent the on-device button from working until it is unlocked. My bad, sorry I missed this feature in the review.

🧐 In the video I listed a few places I would mount an Instamic to record audio at a wedding, but what locations did I miss? Where else should I be using this thing?!
Oh, and if you don't have one you can buy it here:

  • I have question do I can do live Facebook and streaming 30 feet a way from my phone and playing guitar and singing in same time with video streaming on Facebook on these Insta microphone? Or do you can test that on Facebook with review?

  • Do we can play live music like guitar and singing in same time on Instamic for video clip?

  • Do you have any tips on how or the best method to deliver a wedding film to the client. Maybe best 3rd-party options that have a dvd burner at economical prices.

I have seen in another Channels and with another video I uploaded is working well at 1080 on mobile.

Tested a lot of bitrates, etc 🙁

  • One thing I don't get. On min. 4:50 you show a groom from a wedding you shot in 2018 wearing this mic that is supposed to be a new 2019 mic? I'm confused…And you also mention that the tascan can record for 10 straight hours on one battery, while in your tascam review you say that while tascam gives it 7 hours you will not expect more than 4 or something. I'm confused.

  • You get 10 hours of recording from your DR-10ls?? I feel like I'm constantly changing batteries in those things.

  • Have you looked into mixpre-3 or mixpre-6 series II from SoundDevices for your main audio recording
The great thing about that recorder is they have the 32-bit float pre-amp. Which means you never really need to worry about losing or clipping audio. Just set it and forget it. Awesome recording device with built in time code and up to 10-second of pre-roll recording

  • Hi Matt, thanks so much for putting together this review. I really appreciate it. You went straight to the point. Instamic was designed to get where other devices couldn't. It is not supposed to substitute any other audio solutions but it wants to be an add-on, a secret weapon when you need to switch to a run and gun style approach or need to catch that sound in critical conditions. Weddings give many opportunities like that, right?! You are the master of weddings, I am just a videographer 🙂 I would add a few things if I can. FEATURES You will soon be able to manage/format the Instamic's internal storage and wirelessly transfer your takes to your phone (Android is in beta testing, iOS in development). Instamic provides Timecode support that comes handy when managing hundreds of audio and video files. It can also be used as an external Bluetooth Microphone on Filmic Pro, Movie Pro or to go Live on Facebook (Hands-Free Profile Mode). TROUBLESHOOTING. I think the app was crashing because one year ago it was necessary to upgrade the iOS app and firmware together. Once we discovered that, we promptly released a firmware update to solve the issue. Sorry for the inconvenience. Thanks to a wedding videographer we have implemented the lock button option too. You won't be able to trigger Instamic anymore if you turn it on. Thanks again for your time and effort. For any question email me at Happy to help as much as I can. Now I have to back to work to make Instamic your first audio tool 😉 Michele Baggio – Instamic CEO #wearestorytellers

  • 169$ for this useless thing? No thanks…. 25$ for a used Olympus WS-812, Zalman ZM-MIC1 for around 9$ and here we go, best audio u need for all the wedding stuff with full audio control on the device, a physical hold button and the needed inputs (except Zoom H4n recordings from the mixer of course). Waterproof? Who cares, the newlyweds will not swim with it and they will propably not stand in rain. I even dont see any reason to buy Tascam DR 10L for over 200$. I'll better spend this money to buy a backup for a Zoom H4n. What kind of quality do you want to reach, what a simple Olympus (or Sony) Voice Recorder can't?

  • My fave feature is the dual mono recording mode where you can record one at a lower volume than the other in case anything peaks. Brilliant idea 😍 my only complaint is it makes me look like I’m mooching on my phone during speeches!

  • There is an option in app to lock physical button so no accidental touch can stop recording. Other than that I agree with everything said.

  • Mine failed after 6 months of not having used it. No USB connection, no Bluetooth but recording and charging seems to work. Its a 200€ paperweight now.
And to be honest: I am not willing to send it away to be repaired because I already had to pick mine up at customs after my initial purchase with a hefty import fee (~35% of the price) and I am not willing to deal with anything that needs to go through customs ever again.
Sorry, cannot recommend. The Tascam DR-10L on the other hand: BUY IT! BUY ALL OF THEM!
