Disable Synaptics tap to click on windows 10

This Synaptics touchpad Tap to Click disabling only works during the time you are going to be using your computer. Once you reboot your computer, the Tap to Click will return to it’s default touchpad clicks, you will need to re-disable it again if you don’t want your palms clicking every link. This video is for windows 10. For other Windows operating systems you will need to go to mouse settings in the control panel. Also if you don’t see Synaptics settings in the Mouse settings, that means you don’t have Synaptics installed.

Are you sure you have Synaptic Touchpad ?
If your settings don’t show a Synaptics Icon with a tab ( Device Settings ) name, then you don’t have Synaptics installed.

Look on the ( Hardware ) tab there you will see a small window with a list of devices, one name in the list should be Synaptics PS2 Port Touchpad. if its in the list, then you have Synaptics.

If you need to get Synaptics look at links below.

  • it doesn't work like that in my new computer, these idiots keep changing it so you need to do it all over again. I hate taps they cause unintended clicks, they should not be default

  • Dang! I thought you were on to something…But alas I have no tab called Device Settings since I upgraded to Win10. The touchpad is a Synaptics one and it works but I cannot configure it in any way. Tried to disable the tapping in the Registry but after reboot it is back. Makes you hate Windows 10 already….

  • Thanks cee4fun.

I had tried about five different ways to try to get this to work. Your idea was the forst to work!

On my computer, once I enabled the animated icon on the toolbar, I could turn off the Tap to Click after restarting just by right-clicking on the icon, instead of doing all the steps to turn on the icon. But, on my computer a Dell M1330, the Tap to Click actually stayed off!

Also, on my computer, the icon was hidden under the little ^ on the tray.

    Thanks again!
