Add Bluetooth to an old amp with the Logitech Bluetooth Adaptor

A quick & simple video about sending Apple streaming music to a HiFi using a bluetooth receiver. You can buy the Logitech Bluetooth Receiver on Amazon: (UK) (USA)
This video seems to have caused a surprising amount of confusion. The number one question asked by probably a dozen people in the first hour was – “Why didn’t I use Chromecast Audio’ The copy and paste answer is as follows: “My family streaming music subscription is with Apple Music (which doesn’t have a Chromecast app) and I wanted to auto-connect whenever the HiFi was powered up, so Airplay was also out of the question”.

  • The Logitech is a brilliant little thing. I've had mine for about five years or so – it is still the best Bluetooth receiver I have – and that includes Alexa and Google Home devices, which in my opinion are nowhere near as reliable. Another great vid matt

  • You didn’t say where on the amp to connect and why did you not use the supplied cables in the box

  • Mate one of the important things you said out of the million things you said if the RCA connects to AUX output on Receiver? I have a late 90s Sony I’ll have too look at that 👍

  • You can also buy an "MPOW" Bluetooth receiver and transmitter from eBay which connects in exactly the same way, and works the same way, but it is half the price, and can be used for up to 4-5 hours with its own built in rechargeable battery. It can be used connected to a USB socket for charging while playing also, and is much the same size as a USB memory stick.

  • Neat. I have a Google Chromecast I've connected up to a receiver, which does the same job over the wi-fi. I wonder if there would be any quality difference between wi-fi and Bluetooth.
But it's great that older A/V equupment can be modernised this way.

  • There are loads of Bluetooth receivers
But what about Bluetooth transmitters for using Bluetooth headphones on a system?
Or what about a device that can do both?

  • Thank you so much for the review! I've been looking for something like this for my Hi-Fi, but they typically have been quite expensive. That little unit from Logitech seems quite reasonably priced.

  • If you're vaguely handy with a soldering iron, you can add a Bluetooth receiver inside an amp for very little money – you can pick up bate board audio receivers for less than 4 notes on ebay.

  • Bluetooth audio is much more cumbersome, complicated and limited than AirPlay in my experience so it’s really interesting to see you have a different experience! I absolutely hate it when a Bluetooth speaker is connected to one device and I want to switch to playing back from another device. With AirPlay all of that is effortless. Of course, it’s nicest when an audio device supports all three, Bluetooth, AirPlay and Chromecast.

  • I know this is an old video, but the Tp-link Bluetooth receiver is superb. Excellent sound quality, multiple devices can connect at once, powered by USB. Perfect for my needs.

  • I see this was made in 2015, but it's just been recommended to me. Hiding your power leads away by covering them in flammable materials is a horrible idea that's asking for a fire to break out.

    Please no one do that
